Joyeuse fête des mères

MAY 2010
I just reread my blog from May 2009 and decided, darn, that is a pretty good summation of Mother’s Day! I am repeating myself – so enjoy the thoughts again!
“May

Happy Mother’s Day! …and Happy Mothers’ Day!
“”Motherhood is a lifelong journey that’s as unique as every woman who embarks on it. No other role defines us as deeply and fills us with as much compassion – or tests our strength and patience more extremely! No other relationship fills our hearts with as much love, wonder and awe for another human being>”

I love being a mother! I love mothering. I mother Annie and Andrew (they like my mothering them…except on Facebook), I mother John, (he gets a bit annoyed), I mother our dogs , I mother the girls of Petit Soleil and I mother the Petit guests. Sometimes mothering is mentoring, sometimes it is teaching, sometimes it is a warm breakfast on a cold morning or a chilled glass of rose on a warm evening, sometimes it is arguing to stimulate thoughts, sometimes it is helping find the perfect dress for a prom or a tie to match a suit. Mothering is listening and mothering is always love! During May we celebrate mothers and moms, celebrate yourselves!”

Ok, Moms! May is a wonderful month at Petit Soleil! It is a bit of a self- indulgent month as I LOVE celebrating Mother’s Day. Happily, though, Petit Soleil is going to pass on those happy thoughts to our “Mom” guests…especially those that read this blog! At check- in on Thursday, May 6 through Sunday, May 9, 2010, please mention that you read our blog and you will receive a special Petit memento- a giveaway, if you will. It may be something that you sip and/or it may be something that smells lovely, but mostly it will make you feel that you are special!
Happy Mother’s Day!

Vins d'autour du Monde

The above translates to “Wines from around the World” and it will be the theme for our wine tasting during the month of May. There will be no wines from California or from France as those are the wines we always highlight. This month, we will have wines from Portugal, South Africa, Argentina, Italy, Spain, Australia and New Zealand. (I will blog tasting notes as soon as they are available to me) We will try to pair some really different appetizers to enjoy with these special wines. Last year for Mother’s Day Andrew bought me a wonderful cookbook A Taste of the World …I hope to find a few recipes from this book to pair with the selected wines. This should be fun and exciting…I can’t wait!

Huck and Phinn are growing like weeds. They are at Petit every morning as we have a fox family and owls that live in the hills around our home….the pups would be really good lunch to one of those resident predators. Nottie has a tendency to sleep on the couch and not pay much attention to the boys when they are playing outside so for the time being they are coming with us to Petit. Check them out behind the front desk – really cute and sweet boys! Pictures are on Facebook as I cannot figure out how to post photographs on this blog

Cuesta Graduation is in May, Paso Wine Festival is in May, wildflowers are still abundant, Farmer’s Market is crazy with beautiful produce and lots of other great stuff is happening in and around SLO. Come and visit!

A santé and
Joyeuse fête des mères

Dianne

P.s. Thank you, Annie and Andrew, for giving me so much joy and the ability to celebrate Mother’s Day!
