Evening Wine Tasting

Description:

5PM – 6:30PM

Taste a local wine, maybe a French wine or some of our favorites from Central Coast of California paired with light appetizers. Each evening we prepare a selection of hors d'oeuvres to compliment our wines. We use locally grown produce from farmer's market, various cheeses, fresh-pressed olive oil and homemade breads. "Wine brings to light the hidden secrets of the soul, gives being to our hope, bids the coward fight, drives dull cares away, and teaches new means for the accomplishments of our wishes." - Horace, Epistles

Easy (way too easy) Crazy Fruit Salad

On April 1, AKA April Fool's Day, we had a small dinner party. We greeted everyone that evening with a cheerful "Good Morning!" and had a pre recorded Today Show on the TV. John and I both had jammies and slippers on and provided some crazy pajama pants for our guests to wear (Old Navy sale rack had some super fun jammie pants - sizes XXL) Our confused group finally got it and we continued the morning, or brunch, theme and the April Fool's gag and then we served Bloody Mary's and Mimosas and breakfast for dinner (a la Petit Soleil!). The evening was light-hearted and casual and fun!

Ingredients:

Spinach, Strawberries, Kiwi, cucumber, onion, blue cheese, feta cheese, Red pepper-fennel nuts, poppy seed dressing

Coconut Macaroons

John went ga-ga over the macarons that I made over the holidays. The recipe is from my favorite foodie, Ina Garten - I just changed it up a bit.

3 eggs, separated
1 tsp.salt
1 bag flaked coconut
1 can sweetened Condensed Milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. almond extract
1/2 c. ground almonds (or almond meal)

325 degrees. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.

Beat the egg whites with the salt until stiff peaks form.

Mix the coconut, condensed milk, extracts and almonf meal together. Gently fold in egg whites being careful not to overmix.

Ingredients:

eggs, coconut, sweetened condensed milk. vanilla, ground almonds
