We had such a lovely stay at Petit Soleil! We were drawn to this bed and breakfast because it is dog-friendly, which we seriously appreciated it! Petit Soleil has beautiful, spacious rooms, with adorable French touches. Our room came with... read more the most delicious truffles, made on site! Delicious food and delightfully charming rooms. Easy walk to downtown restaurants and shops. We loved our stay here.
What a lovely place. Friendly owners. Extremely well trained and attentive staff. Good location to walk into downtown SLO. The rooms themselves are just okay, although the bed was very comfortable with ample pillows and blankets. Nice toiletries too and plush robes as well. Only downside is that our room was very dark -- you might want to ask for a room with natural sunlight. The decor is a bit tired (carpet, floors) but they do a nice job making it look quaint nonetheless. If noise bothers you may want a second floor room -- you can hear walking through ceiling. It didn't bother us though. And if you don't like dogs it may not be the place for you -- we love having the dogs around but there were at least five there during our stay. All in all I highly recommend and we would return. These owners know how to make the little things add up to a great experience. read less

So let me preface this review by saying I don't typically go through the trouble of making a review for things but the quality of service and overall experience my wife and I had at this Bed and Breakfast was... read more so high I felt as though it was my obligation to share my thoughts. There is so much to appreciate about this little gem of a bed and breakfast. My wife and I started coming to the SLO area on long weekends and finally got a reservation to stay at Petit Soleil. They are popular and often booked solid (and for good reason). I simply can't sing their praises enough but will attempt to do so anyway. The customer service is impeccable. The staff is friendly and it feels like a very family oriented business. These folks legitimately make you feel as though they care about your experience and want you to feel at home and enjoy yourself. The atmosphere is like you are visiting family and staying in their guest room. The hospitality is impressive and the staff went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed to be comfortable and content. Breakfasts are seriously impressive. They do a fantastic job with varying pastries and coffee cakes along side there 7am coffee and tea time. At 730 breakfast is served to the guests that are ready and the food is home cooked and of high quality. I am a breakfast food snob you might say, as I am originally from the south where breakfast is always hearty, the coffee is hot and conversation is mandatory. The key to a good breakfast, as any southern host worth their salt will tell you, is making sure that your dedication and love go into the food you serve and the proprietor and staff at Petit Soleil certainly take this as serious as I do. There are always two options for patrons, either a sweeter pancake/French toast style entree or a egg based entree (quiche or strata). We were very pleased with the experience. In the evening there is a wine tasting with hors d'oeuvres. They always have a few types of wine and a few beers available and they are not at all stingy with their service. You are free to enjoy the courtyard with French music playing, drinking your wine and enjoying friendly conversation with other patrons into the evening. The location is walking distance to downtown SLO and they have good relationships with local wineries and can recommend tastings and tours if you ask. You can walk downtown for dinner in less than 10 minutes. The rooms are quaint and very homey with a well decorated interior and VERY comfortable beds. Lovely and soft ropes for each patron are in the closet and the linens are high quality and soft. There is a turn down service at 630pm that leaves lovely chocolate Truffles on the bedside and before they are done they leave another gift for you, they turn a little radio on and leave French cafe music playing to set the atmosphere for your return. The proprietor has gone to great lengths to consider the details that make a visit pleasant and rewarding. They have created an amazing atmosphere of hospitality and high quality service. The level of customer service and the attention to detail make this place exceptional. I will only stay here when returning to the SLO area, anywhere else simply couldn't live up to my expectations now. If it means anything to anyone reading this should Petit Soleil be booked and unavailable for any trip I planned, I will be altering my plans to accommodate their availability. read less

Not a full array of breakfast choices, of course, but, hey, this is a B&B. All good and tasty. Close enough to walk to a lot of good restaurants and shops, and the bustling downtown district. They apologized for the SLO heat wave, and we laughed - - we are from Phoenix. And anyway, the room had an air conditioner (which we didn't need) and a ceiling fan with a loud and annoying click-clack. After I gave it a little push, voilà, it stopped, and we had a comfortable, cool night's sleep. (I will pass on my cheap fix to the concierge before we go.) Some faux disclaimers: 1. Somewhat noisy intersection, but it quiets down after rush-hour 2. The Amtrak train that passed nearby once or twice could, I suppose, be called quaint, if it were more audible and caused the room to shake, which it didn't.3. The staff didn't speak French, but just ordinary English. However, they have traveled extensively in France, so the place looks authentically French-country. 4. The place has a B&B feel to it, but it is really a small hotel, 12 or so rooms. That is, it is not a house. And anyway, if it were smaller, we probably would never have gotten a reservation two weeks out in this tourist season.
